BRODT: Richard Charles "Rick" Brodt passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Friday, May 1, 2009, surrounded by his family. Rick was born on November 1, 1949 in Regina, Saskatchewan but grew up primarily in Edmonton, Alberta. It was there that he developed a passion for the Edmonton Eskimos that lasted through all of his years. Rick lived briefly in Winnipeg before settling in Brandon in 1967. He considered Brandon to be his home. Rick attended BCI. In 1968, he began his training as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse. After graduating in 1970, he continued to work, first at BMHC and then at Rideau Park Personal Care Home until his retirement in 2004. Rick then continued to work casually up until his illness. At work he developed many treasured friendships and earned the respect of co-workers and residents. As a youth, Rick attended Sea Cadets. He was also a member of the Board of Managers at First Presbyterian Church. Rick was and will continue to be a very important member of cook shack #22 at Clear Lake. He was an avid sports enthusiast. His participation in curling started at BMHC Curling Club. Rick then went onto the Brandon Curling Club, and in 1986, won the Brandon Men's Bonspiel, entitling him to a berth in the Manitoba Tankard. Rick enjoyed playing softball, and later took up coaching. His summers were spent at Clear Lake, where he enjoyed golfing, boating, reading and being amongst friends. After his retirement, he looked forward to his annual trips to Mexico. There he enjoyed the warm sunshine, companionship with Colleen, meeting new people and a cold cerveza. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over thirty-eight years, Colleen; his two heart broken daughters, Elizabeth (Brodie and Tori), Lisa (Carson and Lindy); son-in-law Kyle Shewfelt; his friend and brother Doug (Colette). He is also survived by his nephews Dean, Todd and their families, Chris and Michael andone sister-in-law Frances Bourque (Christopher) and their children Aaron (Claire), Kirsten and Carolyn. Rick had an extended family of loyal, loving, generous, close friends who also share in his loss. Rick was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Irene in 2005; his father, Charles in 2003; mother Kitty in 1991 and his father-in-law Bill in 1973. The Ceremony to Celebrate Rick's Life was held at the First Presbyterian Church, on Tuesday, May 5, 2009. Mrs. Arlene Robertson and Rev. Dr. Dong-Ha Kim officiated. Donations in memory of Rick may be made to a charity of one's choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
